FORMER METROPOLITAN POLICE OFFICER SENTENCED FOR MAKING INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN
A former officer from the Metropolitan Police has received two suspended prison sentences after admitting to making, sharing, and possessing indecent images of children.Grant Thomas, aged 40, previously served as a police constable within the force’s training division.
Following his acknowledgment of the charges, he was dismissed during a misconduct hearing.
Thomas pleaded guilty to two separate sets of charges: one involving three counts of creating indecent images of children and publishing an obscene article, and another comprising two counts of distributing such images, two counts of creating them, and a single count of possessing extreme pornographic material.
During a court hearing on Friday, a judge at Snaresbrook Crown Court sentenced him to 18 months in prison on the first indictment and two years on the second, with both sentences being suspended for two years.
In addition, he was ordered to undergo 60 days of rehabilitation and was placed on the sex offenders register for ten years.
The court hearings revealed that the images he possessed ranged from the most severe category, which includes acts like penetration, bestiality, and sadism, to less severe forms.
He was arrested in March and was formally dismissed following his guilty plea in June.
Patricia Gallan, the Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, commented: “The public have a right to expect their officers to maintain the highest standards and to uphold rather than break the law.
“An officer behaving as this constable did undermines public confidence.
Despite his admissions there is no longer a place for him within the organisation.”
